Kitchen Design in Qatar: Modular or Made to Measure?
How modular and made-to-measure kitchens compare, the layouts that work, and what to plan before you order.
Updated by Al Arabia Carpets
The first decision in most kitchen projects is whether to buy modular units in fixed sizes or have cabinets built to measure. Both can look good. The difference shows up at the edges of the room, in the corners and in how much storage you end up with.
This guide sets out how we explain the choice at Al Arabia Carpets, where we build and install kitchen cabinets in Doha.

Modular or made to measure
Modular kitchens use standard widths, which makes them quick to plan and easy to compare. The trade-off is that real walls rarely add up to standard widths, so gaps get closed with filler panels.
Made-to-measure cabinets are built to the room, so the run reaches the wall and awkward corners become usable storage. They suit rooms with unusual dimensions and owners who want every part of the wall used.
Planning a kitchen layout
Before you choose finishes, settle the things that are expensive to change later.
- Where the sink, hob and fridge sit relative to each other
- Plumbing and electrical positions, and whether they can move
- Which appliances are built in, and their exact sizes
- How much tall storage and pantry space you need
- The flooring, ideally planned together with the cabinets
